ARGFest-o-Con 2008 is over and with zero (reported) related fatalities, we consider it a smashing success! But what did you think? Your feedback will help us improve next year’s event in Portland, Oregon.
If you were able to attend this year’s festivities, thanks! It was great meeting you and we’d appreciate it if you took a few moments to fill out our survey.

ARGFest ended yesterday evening after an awesome and packed day of panels and presentations and a fun Festquest-tour around Boston. I hope I speak for everyone when I say ARGFest ‘08 was a huge success. We will work on having video of the conference available online the coming days, and we hope to have it available on DVD later on as well.
There’s still a lot going on today, like the Find the Lost Ring labyrinth run and the visits to The Tomb courtesy of Aporia CME. For those still around later in the day, the stragglers dinner will be at 6:00 at P.F. Changs right next to the Radisson Hotel.
Everyone who attended ARGFest this weekend: thank you so much and hope to see all of you at ARGFest ‘09 in Portland, Oregon!!

Great late-breaking news coming to us from Michael Epstein, the founder of Untravel Media:
Untravel Media is a Boston-based mobile media production and software
company founded by MIT Alums interested in new forms of storytelling for
mobile devices. They offer downloadable FlashLite and iPod tours that play
out like walkable documentary films. To browse their Boston tours and
technology see: http://www.untravelmedia.com/tours/. When purchasing a
tour enter the coupon code “argfest” for 50% off purchase price.
We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy! Okay, we are worthy, but we should still give our thanks to Michael, who will be at ARGFest on Saturday and can answer any questions any of us might have. For Sunday he recommends the “Beyond the Yard” tour of Harvard Square and the “Little Lanes and Passageways” tour in Downtown Crossing.

Oh woe. The miseries of arriving early to ARGFest, and being *forced* to stay all day on Sunday, too! BOO HOO! Whatever will I find to do with myself? If only I could find a few more ARGish things for the rest of my Boston weekend… *sighs forelornly*
Lo, over yonder! Do I espy some newly added Friday and Sunday activities?
Friday, July 18:
ARGFest-O-Con is all a-tingle over being able to rub up against this excitement: The Puppetmasters of the recently concluded Holomove game have scheduled a post-game discussion for 4pm. Those wanting to participate from home will be able to call in, listen, and participate in a streaming audio live chat. Details on the chat’s physical and webical location to follow. Stay posted via the Unfiction forum thread.
Sunday, July 20:
Jason Chrest, from Aporia Cross Media Entertainment, has thrown down the proverbial ARG gauntlet for those of you brave enough to experience… THE TOMB (dun dun dun). Historical Boston sightseeing not ringing your bell? How about an historical, puzzle-y, curse-filled trip down into… THE TOMB! (dun dun dun. That is never going to get old. dun dun dun.) Jason is generously providing discount coupons for the entrance fee, which makes this too good to pass up. THE TOMB (dun dun dun) allows 12 people in at a time, so if you’re interested in testing your wits against ancient scary mummies, head on over to the ARGFest Wiki Page to sign up! REALLY! THE TOMB! (dun dun dun) GO NOW!
Also on Sunday, July 20
We’re also pleased to announce that at 11am on Sunday there will be a Lost Ring labyrinth training run somewhere near the Radisson hotel. Further location information will be forthcoming as soon as it zooms across my desk here at ARGFest-O-Con Central.

We have posted an updated conference schedule, having made a few adjustments in the speakers and panels sections. Instead of Alex Lieu and Susan Bonds giving a talk on their project Year Zero, Steve Peters will speak on behalf of our conference sponsor 42 Entertainment on the subject of ARGs and the Rules of Engagement.
Unfortunately, we had to drop the panel on Live Events and the Law in Boston, because of the absence of a representative of the city of Boston and the lovely Jane McGonigal, who had pressing engagements elsewhere. This panel has been replaced with the already announced speech bliz on The Future of ARGs! Head over to the schedule page for more info!

The ARGFest logo design contect closed a couple of days ago, and the final votes of the jury are in! This year’s winner is *drumroll*, Daniel Provost, who sent in this striking entry:

Congratulations to Mr. Provost, who earned himself an ARGFest T-shirt sporting his very own logo. We will also be using this logo on our conference material.

We are a mere ten days from the official kick-off to ARGFest-o-Con 2008, and things are heating up. We are happy to announce that we are offering a new feature to this year’s ARGFest — a speech blitz! What is a speech blitz, you might be asking? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like — a blitz of speeches, performed by ten individuals who are each given three minutes of podium time to get their thoughts and opinions out to the audience. The Speech Blitz will take place in the panel slot just after lunch on Saturday, July 19th.
We are asking eight professionals to come up with a three minute speech on The Future of Alternate Reality Gaming, which we hope will provide many different ideas, predictions, and insights from the people who are already creating these experiences. However, we have ten speaking slots, so that means we have to fill two more, and this is where you, our audience, come in.
We are offering two speech blitz spots to attendees of ARGFest that are not already panelists or speakers during the conference. We will be taking submissions at speechblitz@argfestocon.com until Sunday, July 13, 2008. To enter, send us your finished, polished speech, along with your name and registration code. We will be choosing two entries by Wednesday, July 15th, and will be announcing the lucky participants at the cocktail party, which happens between 7pm and 10pm on Friday, July 18th.
Remember, the topic is The Future of Alternate Reality Gaming and your speech has to be three minutes long, so type up your thoughts and practice in front of a mirror, because the next panelist could be you!
